ROBOTICS & ELECTRONICS OPEN STUDIO

Ages 10-15 (or by permission) | Thursdays January 9-February 6 (makeup date 2/13) | 3:00-6:00 pm | Cost: $190 | Location: The Hobby Hangout

Robotics – Students may begin or continue solving missions on our FIRST LEGO League 2019 competition table. Newcomers are welcome and will proceed at their own pace with plenty of assistance building a robot and programming it to accomplish missions on the 2019 table. Students may also explore VEX EDR robotics (https://www.vexrobotics.com/vexedr), which is a slightly higher-level system involving metal frames and larger robots. Both systems are great ways to get started in or to expand coding skills as well as mechanical design and problem solving.

Electronics – Beginning students can have an introduction to simple circuits and soldering and move to higher level projects, bring projects from home that they need help with, and get a start with circuit design software. Experienced students may improve their circuit design skills, create a new personal project or bring one from home.

Students come for two hours between 3:00 and 6:00 pm.

BUILD, DRIVE & FLY

Grades 6-10 (or by permission) | Wednesdays January 8-February 5 (makeup date 2/12) | 3:00-5:00 pm | Cost: $210 | Location: The Hobby Hangout

Build a Radio Control (RC) vehicle, drive it around a huge race track, fly a drone and understand how it all works.

In this class, experts from The Hobby Hangout will introduce students to the electronic, mechanical, power and control systems that make the vehicles and aircraft run. Over five classes, students will work in pairs to build a working RC vehicle and understand all of its systems, and learn to drive the vehicle on oval and cross country tracks. Students will also spend one 2-hour class learning about drone aircraft, how to fly them by eyesight and through the drone’s camera, learn about regulations for flying drones and see very advanced drones designed for industrial applications and public safety. Students do not keep the RC vehicle at the end of the class.

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE CLUB

Ages 10-15 (or by permission) | Thursdays November 7-December 12 | 3:00-6:00 pm | Cost: $190 | Location: The Hobby Hangout

Returning for a 2nd session! Robotics And Beyond will continue its FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics Club for a second series of meetings. Newcomers are welcome and proceed at their own pace. No class 11/28.

The FIRST Robotics programs are all about introducing young people to the wonders of robotics, mechanics, programming and strategic skills, teamwork and important core values (select View Details below). The team will be on a club-basis and not fully competitive in 2019. The objective is to introduce students to the concept of the FLL program and competition, build design and programming skills and prepare for a fully competitive team in 2020. Club members will work independently or in pairs to build and program a robot to accomplish as many missions of the 2019 competition field as possible in a 2-½ minute time period. The theme for the 2019 FLL season is “City Shaper.” The objectives are to innovate and solve problems facing cities of today and the future, and create a vision for a thriving, sustainable and healthy model city of the future. Students come for two hours between 3:00 and 6:00 pm.
